No gas service will be installed until a copy of this form is received by our office
The location of the service must be within Kitchener Utilities natural gas service area
No service will be installed in a driveway unless agreed to by the corporation, in which case the cost of an impact barrier will be borne by the customer
Riser location must not be closer than 90 cm (3'-0") to dryer vent, fresh air intakes, heat pumps, air conditioners, hydro meter and high efficiency furnace exhaust: 3.0 m (10'-0") to mechanical air intake
Repair of concrete or asphalt on private property is the responsibility of the owner
A licensed heating contractor must submit the application on the customer’s behalf with approval from the property owner to ensure code requirements are met
Upon installation, a one-time meter set fee will apply. If the site is not ready for the meter and the technician is scheduled, an hourly service call fee will apply

Installation Timing

Natural gas line installation is six to eight weeks under normal conditions, or up to six months for properties on regional roads. Services on regional roads are not permitted over the winter months.

I, the Customer, hereby apply to The Corporation of the City of Kitchener, hereinafter called the City, for installation of a gas service and gas to the premises described in this form and agree to be bound by all the conditions which follow:

Applications cannot be submitted until the customer has taken possession of the property and is a registered property owner. The customer agrees to arrange for installation of all gas piping from the meter to the points of utilization by the qualified heating contractor designated in this form hereof subject to inspection by and to the satisfaction of the City and the Province of Ontario, before gas is supplied.

The customer understands that additional charges may apply if natural gas is not used within 1 year of service installation, and/or alterations must be done to gas service due to site changes.

The customer agrees that a minimum of at least two natural gas appliances are required or at least one gas appliance that is the primary heat source for the home.

The customer agrees that a gas meter can only be installed in a convenient and safe location and shall ensure that no persons, except authorized city employees are permitted to remove, repair, replace or adjust the said meter. The customer is permitting authorized City employees free access to the premises, during regular City business hours, for the purpose of reading, repairing, removing and replacing meters. It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure there is access to the gas meter. Meters for new installations will not be permitted in backyards to ensure safety and access for meter readers. Any meter or related fixture is the property of the City, but when installed is in the care of and at the risk of the customer who is responsible for costs of repair or replacement of any meter or related fixture that is destroyed, damaged, removed or stolen.

The customer agrees to pay gas bills when due and there is a monthly fixed charge that is billed regardless if gas is being used or not. If a gas meter removal is requested, a fee will be charged for this service. If the meter is installed, the fixed charges will continue to bill monthly, unless a meter removal is requested. The City may change the gas rates from time to time as it deems necessary. The City cannot guarantee a constant supply of gas and is not responsible for any interruptions in the quality and quality thereof. The customer agrees that the City has the right to cut off the supply of gas and remove a meter whenever gas bills are in arrears or upon any violation by the customer of the conditions herein or the provisions of any Ontario Statue or regulations governing the utilization of the natural gas.

Prior to installing the gas service and for standard service connection fee charges, the payment must be received in full. For a complete list of gas service connection fees, please visit the City’s User Fee Schedule. The customer agrees if they require an alteration to an existing gas service due to a renovation or a demolition, and later require a new gas service, the gas service disconnection and the Aid to Construction Fee for the new service will apply.
