Kitchener Utilities Furnace Rebate Program

A $250 on-bill credit will be applied to your bill if you are upgrading your natural gas furnace/boiler to a high-efficiency furnace. The program is in effect until May 31, 2021. The application and supporting documentation can be submitted up to and including June 30, 2021.

Criteria and eligibility for the Furnace Rebate:

  • To be considered for the rebate, the following must be included: copy of the furnace rebate application completed in full; property owner name and signature on the application; and copy of the paid invoice from the licensed heating contractor. If the application is incomplete or proper documentation is not submitted at the same time as the application, this may result in a delay and possible denial in receiving the rebate.
  • The program is in effect until May 31, 2021. The application and supporting documentation can be submitted up to and including June 30, 2021. We will only accept rebate applications for furnace installations completed on, or after January 1, 2020 or later. The duration of the program may change at any time and is based on available funding. If the program criteria changes or the program ends, it will be posted on Kitchener Utilities website under Rates.
  • One rebate in the amount of $250 on-bill credit per household is issued if upgrading to a high-efficiency gas furnace or boiler or if switching to natural gas from another fuel source. The existing furnace must be 94% AFUE or less and new furnace at 95% AFUE or higher to qualify for the on-bill credit. The furnace must have an electronically commutated motor (ECM).
  • Approved rebates will be applied as a credit to the property owner’s utility account where the appliance is installed. If no utility account is applicable and it’s not the property owner’s primary residence, then a cheque will be sent to the property owner’s mailing address. Once the completed application is received and approved, please allow up to 90 days for the rebate to be applied to the utility account or cheque to be issued.
  • The customer must be a Kitchener Utilities natural gas customer with an active gas meter.
  • This rebate program is only available to property owners of a residential property in the city of Kitchener. The full name on the application must coincide with the property owner on the property tax account to be considered.
  • The high-efficiency natural gas furnace or boiler must be purchased and installed by a licensed heating contractor.
  • Kitchener Utilities may contact the licensed heating contractor to confirm the necessary details around the installation.
  • A Service Technician from Kitchener Utilities may be required to inspect the installation(s) of the appliance(s) in order to confirm the rebate application. If the Service Technician from Kitchener Utilities is denied access for inspection, this may result in a delay and possible denial of the rebate.
  • Property owners will be notified by Kitchener Utilities if the rebate is denied or if the equipment does not qualify. Please allow up to 90 days for Kitchener Utilities to review the application and provide a response.
    Kitchener Utilities is not responsible and cannot quantify natural gas or cost savings as a result of theupgraded equipment nor can Kitchener Utilities provide a dollar or consumption amount in terms of savings.
  • Rebate program is subject to change at the discretion of Kitchener Utilities.

Personal information is being collected under the authority of s. 28(2) of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and will be used for the residential rebate program from the City of Kitchener. This information will be shared with staff who require it for their work as part of Kitchener Utilities and will be stored on a server owned by a Third Party Service Provider (eSolutions Group) located in Canada. The personal information collected herein will be used only for the purposes relating to the program and will be protected in accordance with the requirements stipulated in the MFIPPA.
