Senior of the year award nomination

Do you know an outstanding Kitchener resident aged 65+? If so, nominate this special person to be Kitchener’s 2025 Senior of the Year!

Nomination deadline for the 2025 award is March 31. Nominations received after this date will be held in consideration for the 2026 award.

The Provincial Senior of the Year award gives each municipality in Ontario the opportunity to honour one outstanding resident aged 65+ from their local community each year.

Eligibility

  • Nominee must be 65 years of age or older and a current resident of Kitchener
  • Nominee has made volunteer contributions to better the Kitchener community
  • Nominee has not been a previous recipient of this award and is not a current member of the Mayor’s Advisory council for Kitchener Seniors (MACKS)
  • Only individuals may be nominated (couples or groups are not eligible)
  • Nominee must give permission to be nominated and verify that the information being submitted is accurate

Selection Process

Nominations will be reviewed by a selection panel comprised of MACKS volunteers, City of Kitchener Council members, staff, and a representative from Volunteer Waterloo Region.

Recognition of Nominees:

The recipient of Kitchener’s Senior of the Year Award will be announced by Mayor Berry Vrbanovic at a special recognition event in late May or early June.  All candidates, their guests and nominators will be invited to attend the event featuring light refreshments, entertainment and announcement of award recipient from this year’s nominees. All nominees are recognized and will be presented with a certificate by Mayor Vrbanovic.

Any person or organization can submit a nomination for this award. Please note that all information is confidential and protected by the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

The personal information collected herein is for the administration of the Senior of the Year Award Program in accordance with the requirements of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). Information collected will be used to determine eligibility for the Senior of the Year Award, to contact candidates regarding the nomination, to highlight achievements in printed materials and to evaluate candidates and select a recipient for the 2025 Senior of the Year Award and may be used by the City of Kitchener for purposes relating to this program.
