We are excited to be embarking on a journey of collaboration with residents from the Kingsdale community as we create the inaugural Kingsdale Community Centre Advisory Committee (KCCAC). Your participation in this process is crucial, and we invite you to share insights into your background, skills and interests using this application form.

About the community centre advisory committee

The purpose of this committee centre advisory committee is to better understand the diverse needs of residents that live near the community centre and use this understanding to inform recommendations for program and service improvements offered out of the Kingsdale Community Centre.

The committee will be made up of three groups:

  1. Residents from the surrounding communities
  2. City of Kitchener staff and Council representatives
  3. Representatives from partner organizations or groups who provide programs out of Kingsdale Community Centre

Time commitment

  • Monthly meetings: Meetings will be held monthly and will take place from September until June. Specific day and time will be agreed upon by the committee.
  • Term length: Volunteers selected for this community centre advisory committee will be expected to commit for a minimum two-year term

Key responsibilities and tasks

  • Program review and recommendations: Review programs and services offered at the community centre and make recommendations to City staff on improvements, additions, or adjustments based on the community’s diverse needs.
  • Community events: Assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of community events and activities at the community centre that help make it a place where everyone will want to spend time with one another.
  • Community outreach: Act as liaisons between the community and the community centre, gathering input from residents, and promoting awareness of available programs and services.
  • Accessibility and inclusivity: Advocate for and support initiatives that ensure the community centre is accessible to all residents, regardless of age, ability, or background.
  • Diversity and inclusion: Champion diversity and inclusion initiatives at the centre, and promote the equitable provision of programs and services that meet the diverse needs of residents living nearby.

Skills, experience and qualifications

  • Must live, work, go to school, or own property in the City of Kitchener’s Kingsdale neighbourhood
  • Ability to work respectfully and positively in a team environment
  • Interested in learning from diverse perspectives and ideas
  • Ability to share ideas, suggestions and feedback in a group setting
  • Ability to take part in respectful collaboration in order to build consensus
  • Willing to participate in creative problem-solving
  • Knowledge and understanding of barriers that specific groups face in community participation
  • Available and willing to commit to the 10 month/year timeline
